Henry Poole is Here
Terminal illness is what Henry (our main character) faces. He seeks refugee in his childhood house, atleast that is what he set out to do. Being forced to buy another house close to his childhood home, doesn't make things better. He just awaits death. Henry's neighbours is a lone mother and mute daughter, and a faithfull cathlic older woman. Esperanza (the cathlic woman) all of a sudden sees what resembles Jesus as a stain on the outside back wall of Henry's house. And she is a believer. Her intervention into Henry's life is something he by far likes.
Divine intervention is what this is all about, and wether the target for the intervention can change circumstances by letting it in or rejecting it. And let me just tell you, Henry is not a believer.
It is a above average, silent and slow movie. Although this doesn't seem to be any disadvantage. I'd advise you to watch it a quiet sunny day.
Speed Racer
Here's a Wachowski (Matrix trilogy) production. So it naturally expected alot. Being fan of the Matrix trilogy - I expected that this would kick just as much as I had experienced earlier. But that was too much to ask.
This flic is a cartoonish future Matchbox car slide adventure. Where everything is colorful and nice on the surface and rotten to the core on the inside. Devotion is also a key element in this flic.
Storywise the movie is extremely thin, so let's try to concentrate on the visuals. VERY colorful, probably a bit too much. The visuals probably fits best in the IMAX version, because as a normal "flat" movie it is a bit lifeless. The judgement from me is: "Thumbs down, not worth watching".
Babylon A.D.
The return of Vin Diesel (xXx, Riddick, The Fast and the Furious), this time a refugee courier in a future where the UN sealed all borders and left the rest of the world to die in their own chaos. The movies is dirty, like the future of Johnny Mnemonic. Russia is in decay, everything has fallen apart and the Mad Max/Serenity like situation is just around the corner.
Toorop (Vin Diesel) is choosen to smuggle a young girl Aurora (1 2 3 4) into New York for "rescue". Love appears as always and so does evil. The evil comes in form of betrayel like we see in Ultraviolet. Actually this flic could be Riddick in Ultraviolet.
Anyway, this movie had potential, good scenery, good atmosphere, a semi good story, acting as we expect. But the movies collapses completely by the extreme cheap and sudden ending. The movie even goes totally sci-fi implant like when they reach New York, but collapses at the end. I recon the money weren't there to finish the flic properly.
So go watch it to see Riddick in attitude action, but do not expect a great ending.

Righteous Kill
Here you have two titans, Al Pacino and Robert De Niro whom both co-star eachother with equal to say about all of it. This is a crime flic of two policemen who decides to take measures into their own hands. They are slightly corrupted, not over the edge, but it lures.
The issue in the movie is "who does all the killing", we get a pretty clear idea that one of the two does alot of killing in his free time. We just have to figure out who. And the decision sways back and forward between the two.
This is a good movie, absolutely one you should see.

Tropic Thunder
Here we have a war comedy. Not like War Inc, but a real comedy which I expected to be Leslie Nielsen inspired. And it is - crazy as a dog running after it's own tail.
I actually had a pretty bad day when I watched this movie and my mood was way below zero. But this flic pulled me up from the deep - holy cow I laughed. It has been along time since I haved laughed this much over any comedy.
The movie is hillariously funny. Robert Downey Jr. character is brilliant and so is Jack Black's as a drug addicted actor/soldier. Ben Stiller does a pretty good job him.
This is my hottest advise this year. Go see this comedy. It is not wonder that it scores 7.7/10.0. It is that good.
Bangkok Dangerous
I had expected quite a bit from this movie. We have botox filled Nichalos Cage (National Treasure, Next, Face/Off, Leaving Las Vegas) in a Hitman inspired role as a cool, carm killer. Scenery of Bangkok and asian beauty in the form of Fon.
This movie could have been really good. But Cage never convinced us that he was a hardcore killer - he is simply too sloopy. There is simply too much "Leaving Las Vegas" in Cage's role as a hitman.
Cage's apprentice Kong is a bad student and the Wushu cannot even qualify as Wushu.
This movie is not good. It is not worth spending money on watching unless you are a Nicholas Cage addict. Thumbs down.
